WebInvestigator ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome extension handles your data.
Data We Collect
We do not collect any personal data. The WebInvestigator extension operates entirely locally on your device.
- Investigation Data: Screenshots, PDFs, notes, and page visits are stored locally in your browser's storage and never transmitted to our servers.
- License Information: If you purchase a Pro license, we store your license key locally to verify your subscription status.
Data Storage
All investigation data is:
- Stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API
- Encrypted using AES-GCM encryption
- Never transmitted to external servers
- Completely under your control
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Stripe: For payment processing. When you purchase a Pro license, your payment information is handled directly by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card details. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
Anonymous Analytics
The WebInvestigator extension collects anonymous, non-personal usage analytics to help us understand how the extension is used and improve it over time.
- What is collected: Anonymous session ID (a random UUID with no link to your identity), event names (e.g., "investigation_started", "screenshot_taken"), and basic usage counts.
- What is NOT collected: Your name, email, IP address, URLs you visit, investigation content, screenshot images, or any identifiable information.
- Where it is stored: Aggregated daily logs stored in Netlify Blobs (our serverless hosting provider). No data is shared with advertising networks.
- How to opt out: Open the WebInvestigator popup and check the "Opt out of analytics" checkbox in the footer. Your preference is saved immediately and persisted locally.
Analytics data is automatically purged from our servers after 90 days. We never combine analytics data with your license or payment information.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your data to third parties. Since all investigation data remains on your device, we have no access to it.
Your Rights
You have complete control over your data:
- You can delete all extension data at any time through your browser settings
- Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data
- You can export your investigation reports before deleting
Cookies
The WebInvestigator extension does not use cookies. Our website may use essential cookies for functionality.
Children's Privacy
Our service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last updated" date.
